Improving Your Prostate Function
Herbs or parts of various plants such as roots, seeds and leaves have been used as medicines for as far as thousands of years. Usually a whole plant, parts of a plant or extracts of either one or a combination of plants are used in herbal medicines. Today, many people prefer to use herbal medicines simply because they exert greater benefits at low doses, low costs and are relatively safer compared to the allopathic medical drugs. Like almost any other disease or disorder, herbs have played a significant role in prostate, erectile and other diseases treatments for years.
The following herbs or herbal supplements are frequently used to improve prostate health and function.
Saw palmetto (Serenoa repens) has scientifically proved and documented prostate specific properties. It is widely used in many Asian, African and European countries to treat BPH and prostatitis because of the presence of sterols and free fatty acids as its major constituents. Initial studies suggest that the effectiveness of saw palmetto may be similar to that of the pharmaceutical drugs used to treat BPH such as Finasteride.
Pollen Extract: Cernilton
Pollen extract is traditionally collected from the flowers of various plant types and it contains carbohydrates, fat, protein, vitamins and minerals .The particular pollen extract named cernilton has been suggested to benefit a variety of urological conditions including chronic prostatitis. It is believed that cernilton’s potent anti-inflammatory properties and potential in treating symptomatic relief of urinary pain and dysfunction often present in both CP/CPPS and BPH is responsible for its potential use in chronic prostatitis.
Some of the other time-tested and recommended botanical for the health of your prostate include Muira Pauma, Epimedium Sagittatum, Tongkat Ali, Flaxseed, Maca, Cordyceps and Ginseng. All of these ingredients enjoy a long history of successful use for enhancing sexual performance and are known to produce throbbing blood flow to the penis that results in improved sexual control and stamina.
All in all, despite of all the advancements in science and medical research, the irony of the fact is that the medical profession still does not really know how to improve your prostate health and function in a safe and natural way. This inability to “cure” often leads to frustration for both patients and doctors and yet opens new horizons for the holistic side of therapy and alternative medicine.
